The main mis direction was that the oem diff bolts are left hand thread. Elliot confirmed the thread pitch on the new diff, so I set about looking for m10, 20mm long 1.25mm pitch Left hand thread bolts. We think the diff I had was a spoon unit, so I contacted spoon europe...they advised that they do not sell lh threaded bolts...i searched the planet for said bolts. They simply do not exist.

After much searching and feedback we checked the thread and found that it was indeed Right hand thread...! Duhh.
So returned the spoon, who weren't sure whether their bolts were 1.2 pitch or 1.25!!

So contacted Dale and made a straight request do you have m10 20mm flanged bolts PLEASE!!!??? Answer yes...thank fk for that.

Thought this was in the bag....err no not quite....but we got there in the end. As I was leaving the house sat morning to start work on the engine etc, Mr Postie walked down the drive with a small package...Dale was saved......from much blasfeming...

Hi Guys, well the first race is fast approaching so a little update....following the engine problem at Combe we had the engine back from matt@spirit9 as mentioned last week, i set about removing the B18, fitting the gear box on the B16 and getting it in the car.

Posted Image

After a bit of struggle, I got it in...

Posted Image

So it is filled with Mineral oil and i'm off the Pembrey in the morning for an engine run in session..so not expecting any issue.

For those who are interested the the race event is at the Modified Live event on the 5th

Cheers Mike

Evening Gents,

After an eventful afternoon testing at Pembrey I am pleased to say that the car and more specifically the engine is...on fire... not literally. It frighteningly quick...thanks again to Matt@spirit9.com .
Today I had an afternoon checking things over and today task was to fit the coffin as I have named it. It meet the series regulations I needed to add approx 48kg as the car is 1002kg. so the plan was to have a metal box made and load it. Fortunately my local blacksmith had some old multigym block weights totaling 24kg the box turned out to be 10.5kg so just need to add another 14kg. I had some old lead floating around so infilled the spaces with that and laid some layers on top.

Posted Image

Collected it this morning so gave it a coat of hammerite and whilst it was drying give the car a wipe over and added some graphics.

So here it is ready to go at Cadwell on the weekend, so I can relax tomorrow.....instead of a mad rush.

Unfortunately for you Dale that space is reserved for one of the main series sponsors. As is the screen header. You could however become such a sponsor......as could anyone else who may be interested. Plenty of mag coverage.

Hi guys,

Well unfortunately cadwell did not go well, we had an engine failure where the cams had seized due to oil starvation.
When we were putting the engine together we did have concerns over wear on the cams and journals, but we didnt have an option.
At a constant high revs proved too much for the engine.
On lap 5 of the race I felt the car become sluggish, then ...nothing..cut out. On first inspection the cam belt was off the verniers, once Elliot took the rails and cam holders off the wear on the head was apparent.

So, we have sourced a good replacement engine and will do a straight swap ready for the next race in June.

Elliot took some pictures of the head damage, which I'm sure he will post.

Down but not out....

Cheers, on lap 4 or 5, felt the car was sluggish near the end then-nothing no even a sound. So I'm on the look out for a good known b16

Prior to that all fine

Ok guys, a little update, following on from the engine failure I needed to find a new engine..we decided to go for a good engine rather that spend time and money stripping the damaged engine. As the head picked up, there were bits of aluminium floating around the head, and may well have have migrated to the bottom end in the oil.

I posted on here and looked around, fortunately I found a jam del sol import locally on eBay...went to see it and bought it.
It had had a light front end accident and hot written off. So got the car back to the lock up, and made a start.

Posted Image

Got the engine out today having disconnected everything...

Posted Image

After a hour or so, got it cleaned down and give a look over, it appears to have been well maintained, took the gearbox off the change the clutch and every bolt was copper greased, so really easy to work on...nothing seized.

Posted Image

Evidence of a recent oil pump which is reassuring...

Posted Image

So next move is to fit the intake manifold on etc as the engine came with an after market large diameter intake and ITR throttle body..which I can not use in the race series.

Check out these custom made pipes....

The bits mentioned and the pipes will be going up for sale soon...

Cheers Mike

:( poor luck with the two engines going!

The car itself looks awesome though, I'm debating what wheels to get for my EG and this one makes me like the 1.2's!!

Good to see you don't get brought down or slowed down too much and just get on with it of good effort!

Cheers guys,
Fortunately, I have learned an awfull lot by way of car mechanics over the last couple of years, and I have really got to know the car...and for a few hundred quid we can buy a new engine and start again...it hurts but ..where there is a will there,s a way.

Motor sport is not cheep, but it is worth it..when you get a good race result.

I spent most of yesterday getting the engine out of the del sol, today I had the clutch off, race clutch on, Gear box on...intake manifold and ancillaries fitted, new cam belt fitted, timed, engine in ..drive shafts on, all fuel connected, engine running and timed...home showered and in the pub with the wife by 6.30!

I am well chuffed...aching like a #¥%^+¥!

But a great sense on achievement.

Let's now hope that all is right and lets...go...racing..
