So, I thought that my fuel was being rinsed for no reason...

I've just done an MPG calculator ( Please find link below ) and literally nearly had a fit...

My 1.4L Civ is getting 23.8mpg! It's meant to be 42mpg on paper!

This is shocking. I'd be getting more mpg from an ep3 ffs. Or a 2.0L BMW!?

If you wanna see what you're getting, copy and paste the URL below.. and let's compare!

Fresh oil, plugs, runs a lot cleaner.

Also stop ragging it.

Service the car and change your fuel filter too.

So many factors come into play when it comes to MPG. More often then not the main culprit is the driver. If you're generally shifting between 2500-3000rpm you should be returning decent mpg.

Also check your tyre pressures and is you CEL light on?

Petrol BMW engines are useless on fuel btw. Never what they are said to be e.g. 630i is meant to return 31-32mpg combined. You'll be lucky to see 25mpg.

i am getting 35+ from my ek4!!

also think it depends when you fill. some people race to the petrol station soon as they see the fuel light. = less mpgs

my mercedes 420se on the other hand, fuel station like its second home!

Christ that's bad...I usually don't shift until 3500-4000 and get 38mpg all day long...find it's grand to let the revs climb once you don't have the foot planted. Biggest thing for the D14s is keeping them in the right gear where they have the power, you'll seriously notice a difference. As was said, if it hasn't had one for a while, give it a service too

According to that calculator i got 42.4 mpg from my EJ9 travelling in rush hour traffic, it's just had a service and some redex i've seen big improvements since to be honest it probably used to be nearer 38 mpg before. It helps that i drive like a granny, pisses people off but im getting good mpg lol.

o2 sensor has fuck knows how many miles on it, and is fuck knows how many years old.
They don't last forever!
If you're wondering if the post above this signature is taking the piss......it probably is!

For the 11teenth billion time...S20 gearbox is 92-95, S40 is 96-2000.
Next person to claim S20 boxes are short ratios gets raped with a brick, ok?

Wonders if anyone actually read the text above this signature...

I'd have thought that at first too but keeps it perky and responsive rather than laggy. When you're out of the power band and want to pick up the pace you've to plant your foot wasting fuel. I find this way I get better mpg anyway and the D14s can take dogs abuse anyway if you wanted to go mad :P
