There's something (I've lost the word now) which floats in your tank and shows you how much fuel you have. Maybe it's broken?
Simple test, fill up with £10, go out for a drive, ignore the reserve light and have spare fuel on you (fill up one of them 5 liter canisters), see how many miles you do until the car konks out

i don't want to do this and can't cause i work full time so don't really wanna test it...
any other ways?

Just fill it to the brim when you're on the reserve light and see how many litres go in.
