So i've been thinking (that can't be good) what motivates you guys to have 10+ year old cars and spending ££££££ to set (fix them)them up? would it be easier to save and buy something better and do the same?? I've been wondering wether its worth my hassle to do so lol jus wanted to know what you guys take on this

My cars have been reliable and over time there are less of them around!

The satisfaction keeps most of us going I think, I'd say it was the same with anything, whether you mod a new car or an old car, or even fit a nice kitchen in your house. It's when you can take a step back and have a look at what YOU have done :) Well that's what does me :D

What are you planning to use mate?

I've sourced the engine and chassis seperately of my 98 ITR, then rebuilt the engine from scratch.
Will always be doing things like this and actually hoping to find a decent Audi S2 form early 90's next year.
My reason is simple, from experience and knowledge, I gathered that cars from this era aren't so complicated and therefore much more reliable. Also more fun to drive

money, maintainence of a few car, all new cars are getting ugly and the same gizmo's.

really though, and honestly i couldn't answer why i mod my car, after the greif ive had with it.. it's just something you do, for fun, to meet new people, to keep you happy and occupied.

My car has been reliable since I had it, only had to replace a gearbox when I had the D14 engine in, but apart from that, normal wear and tear, Because of that I have had money to dish out on some goodies, New cars are ugly and not fun to drive.

TBH theres always that assumption the newer is better, this isnt always true, the more complitcated cars get, the more they're likely to go wrong (as they generally do!)

the simplicity of older cars means your more than likely be able to repair, rather than replace parts, where as replace is the general concensus on newer vehicles, as most back street garages cant cope with the technology, and main dealers wont waster time attempting to repair.

I got an EJ9 for my 1st car and it has been so reliable so thought why not mod it after seein EK9's. Only thing I have had to do to the car since i've had it is track rod ends, ball joints, tyres and brakes. Basically parts which need changed on every car

Only thing I would change would be the leak haha

well rite now i don't have the funds to buy a new car as i'm in uni, but still want my current car to be up to par and look and work good. Society nowadays makes it seem tht a newer car equals status and that you're more important or people will notice you if you do have one. But that doesnt make people happy. I like older cars
always wanted to build my own ever since i was a teen. I think i would continue even if i had the oppurtunity for a newer car

It's a hobby! And finances too...

I can imagine all the model train/boat/plane fanatics would rather be working on the real thing, but it's just plain cheaper!

I'd rather be doing up an NSX...but let's be fair, I can't afford that :P

It's easy to fix and rather fun! I've owned one "new" car.. a 99 Audi A3.. It was gorgeous luxury wise but it kept fucking breaking and it was a bitch to repair.

Very good point which many are scared to admit. I totally agree and it's one of the reasons why I go against the grain since I can afford something newer but have motivation and I'm fascinated when something underestimated can look so beautiful. Hence why I have a lot of love for the AE86. People who actually think about it the way you explained are either not interested in cars or have nothing interesting to say.
